Restore Lawn Balance

Restore Lawn Balance This Autumn with Bio‑Lime

After a hot, dry summer, many lawns struggle to take up nutrients efficiently. The reason is often soil acidity. Grass performs best in neutral to slightly acidic soils (around pH 6.0–7.0); when pH drops, growth slows and moss gains the upper hand. Correcting pH is therefore the smartest first step in any autumn recovery plan.

What Bio‑Lime does and why it matters

Viano Bio‑Lime raises soil pH, counteracting acidity and creating conditions where grass can absorb nutrients and out‑compete moss. The granules are easy to spread, contain beneficial bacteria, and can be used in autumn, winter or spring. Packs are available in 5 kg and 20 kg, with a 20 kg bag covering approx. 400 m² — ideal for most Irish gardens.

By improving the soil environment first, you make every subsequent feed work harder. A balanced pH unlocks the value of autumn fertilisers and helps the sward thicken before winter sets in.

Eco credentials you can trust

Bio‑Lime is produced by Viano in Belgium — a manufacturer that runs on green energy. With more than 2,300 solar panels on the factory roof, Viano generates its own electricity, reducing CO₂ emissions and minimising its ecological footprint. Choosing Bio‑Lime supports a cleaner production approach as well as healthier soil at home.

Autumn is a prime window for pH correction: soils are warm, rains return, and roots are active. Apply Bio‑Lime evenly over the lawn on a calm, dry day; if rain is not due, a light watering helps the granules begin their work. Because Bio‑Lime is addressing soil chemistry rather than forcing top growth, it can also be used during winter whenever conditions are suitable.

Coverage guide:

  • 5 kg bag — typical for small lawns.
  • 20 kg bag — treats ~400 m².
Check your lawn size to avoid under‑ or over‑application.

How to build a complete autumn programme

  1. Correct pH first with Bio‑Lime to create a healthier rooting zone and discourage moss growth.

  2. Feed for strength with Autumn Lawn Treatment — an organic‑based, slow‑release fertiliser with Humifirst, magnesium and iron that greens, thickens and protects for up to 100 days (10 kg covers ~200 m²).

  3. If moss is present, treat it the natural way with MO Bacter, which destroys moss by indirect action without blackening or raking. It’s organic‑based and feeds the lawn as it works.

  4. Repair thin or heat‑stressed areas with Recovery, a follow‑on organic feed containing Humifirst to stimulate rooting and help stressed turf bounce back after drought or scarification.

  5. Want extra colour and resilience? Once pH is right and moss addressed, Lawn Boost adds magnesium and iron, thickens the sward and feeds for 100 days — useful as growth tapers into late autumn.

Practical tips for best results

  • Mow first and remove clippings so granules reach the soil surface.
  • Spread evenly using a rotary or drop spreader; work methodically to prevent striping.
  • Brush off hard surfaces after application to avoid residues on paving.
  • Retest pH periodically: healthy grass and routine feeding maintain balance, but rainfall and mowing gradually acidify soils again.
